Dr. maria c. russell
Dr. Maria Russell is an Associate Professor in the Division of Surgical Oncology. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and subsequently earned her Medical Doctor Degree from the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. She completed her General Surgery Residency at Emory, followed by her Surgical Oncology Fellowship at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Dr. Russell’s commitment is working with a multidisciplinary team to develop individual treatment plans for each of her patients. Her clinical practice focuses on complex gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary malignancies. Additionally, she is an expert in Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) for advanced stage malignancies. She is an active member of the Multidisciplinary Tumor Boards at Emory, as well as the Co-Chair and Chair of the Tumor Boards at Emory Midtown and Grady. She serves as the Cancer Liaison Physician for the Commission on Cancer at Grady and as the Chair of the Cancer Committee for the Emory Healthcare Network.
Dr. Russell is known for being a strong patient advocate and believes in treating her patients as she would want her own family to be treated. She goes through extreme efforts to ensure that her patients receive timely, exceptional care for their cancer. She is a skilled surgeon and a dedicated physician who is passionate about patient care.
