It has been a little over a year since I started my stint as editor-in-chief of the Women in White Coats blog.

When I took up this exciting opportunity, you can bet that it was not without some trepidation. I was of course apprehensive with my main concern being whether I would be able to do justice to the role.

Being an editor involves a lot of reading and proofreading, and then some more proofreading, and dealing with deadlines. I also had to make sure that the articles reflected the mission of uplifting women doctors, and held to the high standards and principles set by the Women in White Coats founders, Drs Amber Robins and Archana Shrestha,

It has been quite a journey. I was fortunate enough to work with a team of some of the best physician writers designated as the “ Women in White Coats Fellows”  for the past year.

These highly accomplished women doctors wrote some remarkable articles. Issues were well researched, covered succinctly, and often drawn from personal experiences. The final published essays brought perfectly curated material to the readers directly from the minds and hearts of these women.

Some of my favorite articles were on self-help strategies, including how to set boundaries to protect our time and our health, how to negotiate for equal pay and equal opportunity, and how to get an extra three weeks off a year!

Now, who does not want to know how to do that!

Many of the articles had the nation’s pulse in mind. These articles examined the political divide, healthcare disparities, sexual harassment in medicine, the Covid pandemic crisis, and the importance of vaccination.

Everything relevant to women physicians’ struggles, including strategies to address burning issues, including burnout in medicine, was addressed head-on.

Would I do this again? Absolutely! Would you like to be a fellow and join us in this journey as we write, learn, and edit together? Attached below is the link to apply. We are constantly coming up with new ideas and fresh perspectives and would love to have you join our team.
